The "PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana" is a scheme aimed at providing free electricity to households by installing solar panels on their rooftops. Under this scheme, the government will provide free electricity up to 300 units to households with solar panels installed on their roofs. Additionally, households opting to install one kilowatt of solar panels will receive a subsidy of ₹30,000 from the government. 


Furthermore, households installing two kilowatts of solar panels will receive a subsidy of ₹60,000, and those installing three kilowatts will receive a subsidy of ₹78,000.

To ensure maximum participation in the scheme, the government has initiated the process of applying for the "PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana" through post offices as well. Applicants can visit their nearest post office to submit their applications.

The Central Cabinet has approved the 'PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.' The scheme will incur an expenditure of ₹77,021 crore. This is a rooftop solar scheme, under which free electricity will be provided up to 300 units. This new scheme will benefit one crore households.

How much subsidy will be provided?

Each family will receive a 60 percent subsidy on benchmark costs for rooftop solar plants up to two kilowatts. After that, the next one kilowatt will receive a 40 percent subsidy. At current benchmark prices, the cost of a three-kilowatt plant will be ₹1,45,000. Subsidies amount to ₹30,000 for one kilowatt, ₹60,000 for two-kilowatt systems, and ₹78,000 for three-kilowatt or higher systems.

Who can benefit from this scheme?


First: The applicant must be an Indian citizen.

Second: The household must have a roof for installing solar panels.

Third: The family must have a valid electricity connection.

Fourth: The family should not have previously received any other subsidy for solar panels.
